🆚PVP

PVP is a pari-mutuel betting game and it is Kizzy's 1st game mode.

What is PVP?

Player vs. Player is Kizzy's original and simplest game.

Structured as a pari-mutuel pool, odds shift as players place bets on either side of a pre-determined concept or "strike". Once an event stops collecting bets, odds are locked and event measurement begins. Once a winning side is determined, the winners are distributed the losers' liquidity, proportionate to each winner's stake on the victorious side of the binary pool.

Why do PVP Odds Change?

Odds change in PVP because PVP is a pari-mutuel betting game. Pari-mutuel betting games are commonly used in horse racing, greyhound racing or other traditional race track bets.

As players pool bets on either side, each bet changes the weights of the pool for the next player. Every time a new player places a bet on a side, the total amount on that side changes and the total sum of the pool increases.

Think of each bet placed as adding weight to sides of a see-saw. Each bet will change the tilt angle of the see-saw.

Only when a pre-market period ends (no more bets can be placed) do pari-mutuel odds stop moving.

How Does PVP Differ with Each Subject Metric?

Depending on the subject metric (e.g., views, followers), how PVP events are structured slightly differs to support each subject's unique requirements.

PVP Views

Views is fundamentally a user-driven metric. Because views are a metric that is related to a post, Kizzy ends PVP pre-market when a new post comes out. This means that bets are collected up until a new post comes out. Then, that post is tracked across the duration of the live phase, until the duration ends and the market settles.

For thread content platform like X.com, where creators can post a lot per day, Kizzy's protocol has post detection restrictions. On X.com, only the first post of a UTC day is detected for purposes of PVP betting. Once the first post of the UTC day is detected, no more posts will be used to create pools.

PVP Followers

Followers is fundamentally a user-driven metric. Because followers are a metric that is related to an account, Kizzy ends PVP pre-market on a global schedule. This means that bets are collected up until 00:00 UTC, every day. Then, accounts are tracked across the duration of the live phase, until the duration ends and the market settles.

Unlike views, followers can increase or decrease, making this market even more sporadic and dynamic. Because followers can go up or down, betting on followers is focused on betting around the absolute value of the net-gain or loss between the difference in account followers between the start and end of the duration.

Can You Cancel a PVP Bet?

Yes. Players can decide to cancel a bet up until the event begins. Just tap the Cancel Bet button on the pre-market screen. A small 1.5% cancellation fee applies.

Note that unlike a prediction market, PVP does not allow you to "Cash out" your bets for a gain or loss, only the amount of your original bet can be collected.
